Sole Hope Shoe Party

Join us for a chance to give to communities in Uganda. Sonoma County Library is hosting Sole Hope Shoe Parties to make a direct impact on the life of others seemingly a world away. Thousands of vulnerable men, women, and children in Uganda suffer from a crippling parasite called jiggers. Sole Hope Shoe Parties are a chance for you to be included in the shoemaking process and to be a source of hope and relief from foot-related disease. No special sewing or cobbler skills required! You are touching and prepping the fabric that will be finished into shoes in Uganda to aid in living a life free from jiggers. **Materials will be provided but, please consider bringing older denim to donate! Shoes are constructed from denim so if you have an old jean jacket or pair of jeans bring them along to recycle**

Civil War Days

Step back in time to 1863 and enjoy a fun, family-oriented experience in the charming town of Duncans Mills. This annual, two-day living history experience is one of the largest Civil War reenactments west of the Mississippi and the largest in Northern California. The American Civil War is brought to life by hundreds of dedicated reenactors portraying Union and Confederate soldiers, horse-drawn artillery, mounted cavalry, merchants, musicians, and civilians. Between battles, visit the encampments and see Civil War-era equipment. Interact with these “living historians”—learn what they believed in and why they risked their lives for these beliefs. It is an understanding you cannot get from reading a book or watching a DVD! A thrilling educational experience that will delight people of all ages.
